YouTube will disappear from the Amazon Fire TV and Echo Show as spat between Google and Amazon grows
Google and Amazon have been engaged in a skirmish a bit lately around the implementation of YouTube on the Echo Show.
A rare public spat in the technology industry escalated on Tuesday when Google said it would block its video streaming application YouTube from two Amazon devices and also criticized the online retailer for not selling Google hardware.
The video-streaming access fight has been going on for some time now. In September, Google blocked YouTube support for the Echo Show and at the time said Amazon's implementation "violates our terms of services, creating a broken user experience".
This was resolved in November for Echo Show users, when Amazon began directing users to the web version, a simple that left a lot to be desired.
"We've been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other's products and services. But Amazon doesn't carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn't make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest's latest products. Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube and Echo Show and Fire TV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon."
YouTube will be pulled from the Echo Show today. All those who own an Fire TV will start seeing a notification today warning them that the service will be unavailable as of January 1st, 2018.
